Renee Martig, a brief history
Renee Martig has been a life-long artist and animal lover. Born in Colorado, she moved with her family at an early age to Southern California. She always had pets, (even a monkey at one time), but always wanted a horse. Renee saw an ad for a $90 bay pinto and she pleaded with her dad to go look at him. Her mother nearly fainted when they unloaded 'Rickoshay' the skinniest horse she had ever seen! He went on to become quite a handsome show horse, winning many ribbons at local shows. Renee taught him to bow, rear up on command, and to jump anything put in front of him!
Moving back to Colorado at the age of 13, Renee continued to ride and draw horses. Years later moving to a small Colorado mountain town where she met her husband and business partner Dave. They raised their family before moving to Loveland Colorado in 2000. In the early 70's she studied silversmithing and learned by trial and error to sculpt in wax. This led to making wax carvings for jewelry casting and eventually doing larger three dimensional sculptures. She has since produced many wonderful horse sculptures. Over the years Renee also gained a reputation as a superb stained glass artist and produced five best selling books of stained glass patterns (horses, Native Americans, cowboys, animals and nature). Her creations in glass grace windows throughout the world. Renee's sculpture and jewelry can be found in select galleries and catalogs.
Over the years Renee has been involved in nearly every facet of horsemanship including: breeding, training and showing. Renee has participated in almost every event from trail riding and barrel racing to hunter/jumper and dressage. In addition to horses, many beloved dogs and cats have come and gone. Currently she has 4 horses: Skip, a 32yr old Quarter Horse; Bailey, a black Mustang mare; Buddy, an Amish bred black & white pinto; and Maria Katarina, a 5yr old Andalusian. They also have 3 dogs: Renny, a rescued Australian Cattle Dog; and Tony and Mini Max, two Peek-a-Poos.
Renee, along with Dave her husband of 37 years, live on their small ranch in the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. When she's not riding, Renee continues to produce heartfelt designs filled with her love of animals, and of life.
